Meet Vindya
Vindya De Silva has taken courses in batik and is also self-taught. She loves experimenting, exploring new techniques, and finding new ways to develop her craft.
We work closely with Vindya, a mother of two daughters, who has her own small home-based workshop where she creates beautiful batik pieces.
Vindya started her business in 2021, at the height of the pandemic. It was a challenging time for many, but for Vindya, it also became a blessing in disguise. The extra time gave her the opportunity to explore and dedicate herself to a craft she had always dreamed of pursuing.
Today, her passion-driven business is run by Vindya with the help of her two daughters. Together, they hope to use their creativity as an outlet while sharing the beauty and tradition of Sri Lankan batik with Urumaya.
Who makes our furniture
To embrace the philosophy of slow furniture, each piece is thoughtfully handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail. We work closely with Zully, the founder of Cane Cult, based in Sri Lanka, who creates beautiful pieces that celebrate traditional craftsmanship and the natural beauty of the materials.

Meet Zully & Jalal
Zully and her brother Jalal discovered the intricate art of cane weaving and were inspired by the talented artisans behind it. They work with skilled craftspeople in small local workshops, where locally sourced rattan is carefully transformed into beautiful and functional pieces.
Zully and Jalal’s mission is to support these artisans and bring their extraordinary skills and craftsmanship to a wider audience.
At Urumaya, we share this vision. We believe in supporting local communities, preserving traditional craftsmanship, and creating greater awareness of the rich and beautiful craft heritage of Sri Lanka.
